Das Gräberfeld von El Cigarralejo wurde bereits in den 1940er-Jahren ausgegraben. Bei den meisten Gräbern handelt es sich um Brandbestattungen, bei denen die Überreste in Urnen beigesetzt wurden. So auch im Grab 200. Es ist daher ein Glücksfall, dass überhaupt noch textile Reste erhalten geblieben sind, die eine Rekonstruktion der Borte ermöglichen. Auch wenn die Fragmente verkohlt sind, lassen sich häufig noch erstaunlich viele Details erkennen.
Die Funde werden in das vierte bis dritte Jahrundert vor Christus datiert.
The cemetery at El Cigarralejo was excavated as early as the 1940s. Most of the graves are cremation burials, with the remains placed in urns. Grave 200 was one of them. It is therefore fortunate that any textile remains have survived at all, allowing the band to be reconstructed. Even though the fragments are charred, a surprising amount of detail can often still be identified.
The finds are dated to the fourth to third centuries BC.

In der Urne wurden außerdem Reste feiner Brettchen aus Buchsbaum gefunden, die eine Kantenlänge von etwa 3 cm hatten.
In dem Grab befand sich noch ein weiteres, gröberes brettchengewebtes Band. Davon ist allerdings nicht genügend erhalten, um es sinnvoll rekonstruieren zu können.
The band was woven directly onto a linen fabric in plain weave.
The urn also contained fragments of fine boxwood tablets, with an edge length of approximately 3 cm.
There was another, coarser tablet-woven band in the grave, but not enough of it has survived to allow a meaningful reconstruction.
Das Muster entsteht durch die unterschiedliche S- und Z-Stellung der Brettchen, die kontinuierlich in dieselbe Richtung gedreht werden. Die 33 Brettchen sind dabei abwechselnd in Gruppen von drei Brettchen in S- und drei Brettchen in Z-Stellung aufgezogen. Es handelt sich somit um ein Strukturmuster.
Um die ursprüngliche Breite von 1,4 cm zu erreichen, habe ich ein feines, naturfarbenes Leinengarn verwendet, das ich sonst nur als Schussfaden einsetze. Es war nicht einfach zu weben, aber mit einer Breite von 1,5 cm bin ich mit dem Ergebnis sehr zufrieden.
The pattern is created by the different S and Z orientations of the tablets, which are continuously turned in the same direction. The 33 tablets are threaded in alternating groups of three in S and three in Z. It is therefore a structural pattern.
To achieve the original width of 1.4 cm, I chose a fine, natural-coloured linen yarn that I normally use only as a weft. It was difficult to weave with, but I am very pleased with the result at 1.5 cm wide.
