Ich bin nicht die Einzige, die immer wieder Bücher durchstöbert – in der Hoffnung, auf die eine oder andere Abbildung einer brettchengewebten Borte zu stoßen. In diesem Fall hat Sylvia Crumbach 2013 ein Reliquienband entdeckt, das durch seine schlichte Eleganz einfach überzeugt.
Leider ist hierzu nicht viel bekannt. Es handelt sich um ein Reliquienband, das wahrscheinlich ursprünglich an der Stola eines Bischofs befestigt war. Weder gibt es Informationen zum Material noch zur ursprünglichen Breite der Borte.
I am certainly not the only one who keeps searching through books in the hope of finding yet another illustration of a tablet-woven band. In this case, Sylvia Crumbach discovered a reliquary band in 2013 whose simple elegance immediately caught my attention.
Unfortunately, very little is known about this band. It is a reliquary band that was most likely originally attached to a bishop's stole. Neither the material nor the original width of the band has been recorded.
Da es sich um das Band eines Bischofs handelt, habe ich mich für Seide entschieden und nur die beiden Muster gewebt, die auch auf der Abbildung zu sehen sind. Wahrscheinlich gab es jedoch noch weitere Mustervarianten.
Für meine Nachwebung habe ich Seide Nm 11 als Kettmaterial und Seide 60/2 als Schussfaden verwendet. Das Band wurde mit 21 Brettchen gewebt, darunter jeweils zwei Randbrettchen auf jeder Seite. Die fertige Borte ist etwa 1,5 cm breit.
As this was a bishop's band, I chose to weave it in silk and reproduced only the two patterns visible in the published illustration. It is, however, quite possible that the original band contained additional pattern variations.
For my reconstruction, I used Nm 11 silk for the warp and 60/2 silk for the weft. The band was woven with 21 tablets, including two border tablets on each side. The finished band is approximately 1.5 cm wide.
Heute würde ich mich wahrscheinlich für eine Kette aus roten Woll- und weißen Leinenfäden entscheiden. Das Band erinnert stilistisch stark an die „koptischen“ Borten aus Ägypten, bei denen Wolle und Leinen häufig gemeinsam in der Kette verwendet wurden. Als Schussfaden würde ich wahrscheinlich ein feines Leinennähgarn wählen.
Today, I would probably choose a warp of red wool and white linen threads instead. Stylistically, the band closely resembles the so-called "Coptic" bands from Egypt, where wool and linen were frequently combined in the warp. For the weft, I would most likely use a fine linen sewing thread.
