The historical find is a band from gold stripes form the an early medieval burial mound in Taplow Court, an estate in the south-eastern English county of Buckinghamshire. It was excavated in 1883 an it contained one of the wealthiest offerings of this time of the United Kingdom.

Most of the clothing is gone only few fragments are left. But there are some tabelte woven bands. One was originalle 3 cm width, the other one 1,4 cm. This is the pattern of the smaller band, wich was in a better condition and makes it possible to work on a reconstruction.

Usually I try to weave the bands in the same quality as the historic finds but here I'm limited to the width of the gold stripes I have. So I had to use a yarn quality of approx. 30/2 that it would fit. The band has due to this chosing now a width of 2,1 - 2,2 cm instead of 1,4 cm.

The wide band from Taplow Barrow was woven with wool, the material of the smaller one is unknown. For the 30/2 quality I used 30/2 silk, dyed by Archäotechnik textile Fläche.

I've woven with 29 tablets threaded in the same colour, alternating S and Z. 23 of them were brocaded.
